The Veteran’s welcomed Bredhurst to Waterside on Saturday. Both sides began the day unbeaten, so a fairly close encounter was expected. Add to that the Old Boys had two key players missing, a new face between the sticks and a new shape defensively, the quality of the squad became apparent. A close, if not frustrating first half, saw our lads saved by the offside flag, and a little guilty of rushing key passes moving forward. An injection of energy and bite from the bench offered reward as Luke Walder added to his tally following a persistent run. Soon after, Marcus Hodges did what he's done for years, sense a chance, and slot home. We appeared to be cruising towards another clean sheet, yet conceded in the final minute following a scrappy exchange in the area, some claiming a handball in the process. So, a 2-1 victory and, in all, a pleasing day.
The management must be happy with there standing to date with 9 points from a possible 9.
